TV presenters - Christmas sweaters first gained notoriety in the 1980s in the United Kingdom; several television presenters began to wear them in the run-up to the festive holidays. Initially, the jumpers were hand-knitted items from elderly relatives gifted as Christmas presents. They were ugly and poor fitting... Yes!!

Naff gifts - By the 2000s, Xmas sweaters had fallen out of favor; they were seen as naff. They had their day .... Boo, we say!!!

The tack is back - But through the 2010s, Festive knits returned to favor! With celebrities leading the charge, the humble festive sweater is celebrated again through regional ugly sweater contests and the Christmas Jumper Day fundraising event (We've all started wearing them again for family get-togethers, office parties, and work).
